“I love travel and trips. They are an important part of my creative process. I have created collections inspired in the effortless elegance of Italian Tuscany, the vibe and beautiful architecture of Barcelona and the magic of the Colombian Caribbean that inspired the stories of García Marquez, amongst others. Talking about the hotel, when I travel I want to be at home and enjoy a beautiful space and incomparable personalized service… For this reason, when I started the Tcherassi Hotel Collection, these factors were at the top of my list.”
Business woman, fashion & home designer, hotel owner & awarded Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters from the French Government. Born in Colombia, Silvia Tcherassi is a great inspiration to many. She’s brought her collections to the finest runways. Her designs have been worn by Sofia Vergara, Catherine Z Jones, Queen Noor of Jordan, Gloria Estefan and Martha Stewart among many other stars. Her work is bold and feminine, stand-out but classy. Silvia Tcherassi’s collections are, without a doubt, one of the most exclusive Colombian collections, if not the most. She leaves her own personal touch in everything she creates, a halo of finesse and luxury, with that freshness that comes from her Colombian roots.
We talked to her about her work, what inspires her, her success and her lifestyle:
Fashion is the most democratic amongst the arts because we live surrounded by fashion.
The first time I saw my collection on the catwalk I felt great emotion. Until the first model hit the runway, I always am nervous. After presenting my collections in Milan and Paris fashion weeks, invited officially by the organizers, in 2003 and 2004, I can say that I achieved this goal many years ago, validating my concept and my brand besides the best of the best of the best in the industry.
Fabrics are the starting point of my creative process; sometimes I feel they want to tell their own stories. It was very hard to find them, for this reason I started to create my own fabrics in Italy. But the process continues in my studio because I love transform their appearances and create something very original.
“I do like to have a relation with my clients; for this reason I opened my own atelier where I can interact with them in a beautiful space surrounded by the most luxurious fabrics. I just opened my new atelier in Miami and the space is beyond beautiful.”
You need to have your own approach and a long-term vision but you need to learn to react quickly if you want to be successful and relevant.
When I look back at the beginnings, I feel very proud for my accomplishments. I always have been a “grounded dreamer”. I love to dream but I am very pragmatic at the same time… remember, I love to synthesize extremes…
“After my successful debut in the European runways, I was looking for different ways to translate my vision beyond fashion. Armani, Versace and Bvlgari started the concept of “fashion hotels” and this approach was “tailored made” for me because of my studies in interior design. You can express the beautiful language of shapes, colors and textures in different platforms, fashion or hotels, confirming a real, true and honest vision.”

“I recently met Mario Testino and I love his pictures. He has the eye to portrait fashion in a very artistic way as Helmut Newton in the past. About models, I prefer the real top models not the Kendalls, Bellas o Gigis…”
“(On receiving the title of “Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters” award from the French Government) It was a great honor to be recognized for your contributions to the fashion industry. This kind of titles are a motivation to continue working very hard for your brand and opening doors for the new generation of Latino designers, at the same time.”
When your brand has a strong foundation and a clear vision, you can translate it to different fields in a very consistent way.
Be very focused and never compromise your vision.
